Will the GPS system fail?
Hi!
I´ve read a new in a newspaper that made me become a little bit concerned. The new told about the GPS system that, according to a report of a north-american governmental agency this system will start to fail, with all the problems that we´ll have with all the machines that uses that technology. It´s necessary to invest 1,4 million €uros to retrieve their satellites.
What is the GPS system?
The GPS system are 27 satellites around the Earth, on 3 different orbits of 55 to 60 degrees in relation to the equator.
How it works...
Each satellite sends data about their placement in space and time.
Receivers-installed in cars, ships and aircraft-receive the signal of 3 of the satellites and calculate its position.
In the case of aircraft is necessary to supplementing 4 satellites.
Aplication
The GPS system has been created for militar purposes by the Defense Department of the United States of America, but nowadays is used also by civilians, most of all in their cars.
So, with all these applications we have in these days, will be very bad if the GPS will fail. Now that we are using it, it seems very bad if we can´t use it anymore.
